How is it possible that an hour and a half dance-class has this effect on one's life? Looking at Biodanza through the lens of the autonomic nervous system, helps us understand the health effects and the sense of well-being in ones own body and life in general when participating Biodanza regularly. The Polyvagal Theory from Dr. Stephen W. Porges sheds a light on the functioning of our autonomic nervous system. He discovered a newer branch of the nervous system and named it the "Social engagement system". His theory shows us how our social connections and sense of safety regulate our behaviour, our stress levels, psychological and emotional wellbeing and physical health . Porges talks about ways to strengthen the autonomic nervous system and to make it function healthier again. These doorways and mechanisms correspond to what dancers do every week in Biodanza class!
