With Rupert Meese * Sat 17 Feb 5pmGMT * OnlineBiodanza in the twenty-first century operates in a different cultural environment to that of the 1960's in which it was conceived. The principles remain the same, biodanza remains radical and culturally transgressive in its approach to touch, contact and caress - recognising that these elements play a profound role in strengthening or recovering our connection to life. However, biodanza as a practice is faced with a crisis. Awareness of sexual violence, harassment and inappropriate behaviours is high. Many individuals, and the culture itself, carry trauma around touch and sexuality. These traumas on occasion flair into fears, triggers, and accusations within the biodanza class. As a practice we have failed to develop the narrative or perspective to respond safely, cohesively, and generatively to these events. Layering in the narrative of trauma informed practice in biodanza may build a contextual framework around biodanza that is able to prevent or hold the effects of traumas that participants inevitably bring into the space.
